Understanding autism and ADHD through a different lens

Jul 13, 2026

When we talk about autism and ADHD, it’s very easy for the conversation to focus on lists of traits or challenges, and while those can be useful at times, they don’t always capture the full picture.
But autism and ADHD are not just sets of behaviours. They are ways of experiencing and interacting with the world.

Autism can involve differences in how a child processes sensory experiences, understands social interaction, and communicates.

ADHD often involves differences in attention, impulse control, energy levels, and how a child regulates themselves.

But underneath all of that is a nervous system that is working in its own way, responding to the world based on how it processes information.

And I think when we begin to look at it through that lens, it becomes less about trying to manage behaviours, and more about trying to understand experience.

Inside the membership this week, we go a little deeper into how autism and ADHD show up in day-to-day life, and how we can respond in ways that support, rather than conflict with, how a child actually functions.

P.S. In the Membership this week, we will talk about this in more details.

Sometimes these are seen as narrow or repetitive, but when you look m...
What do we actually mean by neurodiversity?
I wanted to introduce a word this week that can sometimes feel a little uncomfortable, and that is the idea of ableism.   And I want to approach it gently, because this isn’t about blame or getting things wrong. Ableism, at its core, is simply the set of assumptions we tend to carry about what is “typical” or “acceptable” when it comes to how people think, behave, learn, or communicate....
What do we actually mean by neurodiversity?
I’ve been thinking recently about how often the word neurodiversity comes up in conversation now, and how, while it’s becoming more familiar, I’m not always sure we’ve had the chance to slow down and really sit with what it means. So for the next few weeks, we will have Siobhan Campion, an autistic adhd advocate, and psychologist with EPT Clinic delivering key masterclasses and workshops...
