When the Advice Doesn’t Fit
A parent said something to me this week that really stayed with me:
“I’m doing everything I’ve been told… and it still doesn’t feel right.”
And I hear this more than you might think.
Parents reading, learning, trying to follow the guidance… and still feeling unsure. Not because they’re doing it wrong. But because it doesn’t quite fit their child.
And that’s a very uncomfortable place to be - it's actually one of the reasons we have the Neurodiversity Essentials Membership. Because we’ve been taught to trust the evidence. To follow the approach and to do it “properly”.
But here’s what I want to say clearly:
👉 Evidence matters.
👉 But your lived experience of your child matters just as much.
And when those two things feel like they’re pulling in different directions…
that’s where the real work is.
Not choosing one over the other. But learning how to bring them together. Because no strategy works in isolation.
It works in relationship.
In context.
In real life… on a Tuesday evening when everyone is tired.
And you are part of that equation.
👉 Weekly Nervous System Nudge
The next time something “should” work… but doesn’t — pause.
Ask yourself:
Is this not working… or does it need adjusting?
That one question changes everything.
Because it moves you from:
“I’m getting this wrong”
to
“I’m learning my child”
And just to say…
This is exactly the kind of moment we slow down inside the membership.
Not just “what works” —
but why it works, when it works, and how to adapt it when it doesn’t.
Because that’s where confidence actually comes from.
And honestly… it feels very different.
