Want to really know your child?
I was thinking this week about a question I often ask in clinic.
Not about behaviour.
Not about strategies.
Not about what’s “working” or not.
Just this:
How do we really learn about and KNOW our child?
Because it’s easy to feel like we should know.
We live with them.
We support them.
We think about them constantly.
But when things are busy, or hard, or noisy…we can slowly shift into managing. Managing behaviour. Managing routines. Managing expectations. And without realising it, we can drift a little further away from understanding. Not because we don’t care. But because we’re carrying so much.
And this is where I always come back to:
Understanding your child changes everything.
Not perfectly.
Not instantly.
But it softens things.
It brings clarity.
It helps you respond, rather than react.
👉 Weekly Nervous System Nudge
This week, instead of asking:
“How do I fix this?”
Try asking:
“What might be going on for my child here?”
- Are they overwhelmed?
- Are they trying to keep up?
- Are they unsure what’s expected?
- Are they needing connection before anything else?
We don’t always need more strategies.
Sometimes we just need a clearer lens.
And just to say…
This is exactly the work we do inside the membership.
Slowing things down.
Looking a little deeper.
Making sense of what’s underneath.
Because when you really start to understand your child,
everything begins to feel a little more manageable.
