Have you noticed this?
Many parents tell me this is the week things unravel a little more at home.
After days of holding it together, socially, emotionally, cognitively, children often release that effort where it’s safest.
At home.
Children are often tired being back at school - I can see it with my own two boys...
This can be confusing and exhausting.
But it’s rarely a sign of things getting worse.
It’s often a sign of masking exhaustion, and of adjustment.
What you’re seeing isn’t defiance.
It’s coping.
When they come home, they release a pressure point, they are seeking safety, and understanding.
👉 Weekly Nervous System Nudge
A Supportive Strategy from Me to You
✨ When masking drops and you see overwhelm (or behaviour), increase safety signals before setting limits.
You might try saying:
“You don’t have to hold it together here. I understand school might have been hard...”
or
“I’m right here. We’ll sort this when things feel calmer.”
Safety first.
Then structure.
If evenings feel heavier this week, you’re not missing something.
You’re seeing the cost of effort.
And that matters.
