Neurodivergent Strengths and Rewriting the Narrative
This week, I want to gently shift the lens.
When we talk about neurodivergence, conversations can quickly centre around support needs, accommodations, overwhelm, or advocacy.
Those things matter.
But they are not the whole story.
Neurodivergent children are not defined by their regulation challenges.
They are often:
Deeply perceptive.
Exceptionally creative.
Highly attuned to detail.
Passionate about interests.
Loyal in relationships.
Original in thinking.
Sometimes, when we are in the thick of supporting hard days, we can forget to name what is strong.
Neurodiversity is not only about difference.
It is also about contribution.
And when children repeatedly hear what is strong in them, identity shifts.
👉 Weekly Nervous System Nudge
A Supportive Strategy from Me to You
✨ This week, we intentionally name one strength that is not linked to achievement.
We might say:
“I love how deeply you think.”
“You notice things others miss.”
“You care in a big way.”
"I love your busy busy".
Strength-based language builds identity from the inside out.
If we have been focused on coping, that makes sense.
This week, we widen the picture.
There is more right than wrong.
